CDL Class B

The CDL for local, home-daily routes and specialized commercial vehicles.

A Class B commercial driver’s license is required for any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs or more, and for any such vehicle towing a trailer that is rated at 10,000 lbs or less. This is the license many drivers choose for local and regional work— think straight trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, and many commercial and passenger buses.

Our instructors at Carolina Trucking Academy train you on real equipment and support you with job placement assistance so you’re not on your own after you pass your test.

What you can drive with a Class B CDL

  • Straight trucks (box trucks, delivery trucks)
  • Dump trucks and some construction vehicles
  • Certain buses and passenger vehicles (with proper endorsements)
  • Garbage trucks, utility trucks, and other vocational vehicles
  • Local and regional freight in a single-unit vehicle

Is Class B right for you?

  • You prefer local home-daily routes over long-haul
  • You’re interested in construction, utilities, or municipal work
  • You want to drive buses or other passenger vehicles
  • You’d like a shorter training path than Class A, but still want strong earning potential
